Accessibility statement

Last updated: 25 May 2026 · Version 1.0

The Juliana Amato Lumumba campaign team is committed to making its website accessible to as many people as possible, in accordance with international digital-accessibility standards. This statement sets out the accessibility status of the site, the features designed for that purpose, and the ways to report any difficulty.

Accessibility standard

The site juliana-lumumba.org aims for compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 level AA, the international recommendations for web content accessibility published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

The site also follows the principles of the RGAA (Référentiel général d'amélioration de l'accessibilité), the French national accessibility framework.

Conformance status

As of the date of this declaration, the site is partially compliant with the WCAG 2.1 level AA criteria.

Main measures implemented:

  • Colour contrast meeting WCAG AA ratios throughout, AAA for body text
  • Navigation fully usable from the keyboard (Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter, Escape)
  • Visible focus ring on all interactive elements
  • Semantic HTML5 structure (h1, h2, h3, nav, main, article, aside, footer)
  • Alternative text on every informative image
  • Logical and uninterrupted heading hierarchy
  • Compatibility with the main screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver)
  • Support for the operating system dark mode
  • Respect for the user preference for reduced motion (prefers-reduced-motion)
  • Trilingual support with native right-to-left (RTL) writing direction for the Arabic version
  • Audio player for the main speeches, for visually-impaired users or those who prefer listening

Known limitations

Despite our efforts, some parts of the site still present accessibility limitations:

  • Not all published videos yet have French and English subtitles. This work is under way.
  • The interactive map of the Francophone space (under development) will undergo a dedicated accessibility review before publication.
  • Some older PDF documents do not fully respect document accessibility standards. A progressive overhaul is planned.
